Amazon is proposing a drone delivery operation at its North Portland fulfillment center. I oppose bringing routine commercial drone delivery over Portland neighborhoods. This site follows the proposal, the public process, and the evidence residents can review for themselves.
Understand the proposalAmazon says it plans to install a Prime Air Drone Delivery Center (PADDC) at its SOR3 fulfillment center and begin operations in early 2027. The September 2026 narrative describes MK30 drones carrying packages from the site to customers.
AMAZON'S DESCRIPTION Amazon says a drone would take off vertically, follow a pre-defined route at roughly 200–400 feet, descend to a selected delivery point, release a package from about 13 feet, then return. Those are the company's descriptions of its proposal, not City findings.
What the City has determined: In its August 17 zoning analysis, Portland treated the proposed rotor-powered drones as helicopters under the zoning code. The landing area is therefore a Helicopter Landing Facility, requiring Conditional Use Review through a Type III process.
Read the City's analysis ↓I have listened to recordings of Prime Air drone operations. To me, that sound is intrusive and unacceptable as a routine presence over where people live, work, and spend time outdoors. I do not support commercial drone delivery in Portland.
